Condolences for Paul N. Manter

Chris noted Paul's typical grin - yes! His outstanding characteristic was how visibly he enjoyed everything: his classes and spirited discussions, and social conversations (even at such a disadvantage having to root for the Bears). My brother remembers bowling against the English Dept. team at Cartwright Center and how Paul & the others always wanted to finish with conversation & a pitcher of beer. I did not have him, as a teacher, but later as a colleague, and he was among those who made a very nervous former undergrad and young graduate student feel like a qualified teacher. I will always be grateful for his support and friendship when I needed it badly. Thank you.

So sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your family. I have lost both my mom and dad and not a day goes by that I don't wish to have one more day with them. Take care Valerie, and hugs to all.

I had the pleasure of knowing Paul for many years. I first met him when I took his composition class at UW-L. He was a very good teacher. I still recall trying to write papers that had minimal corrections, (trying and not succeeding in outsmarting him),and that is how we learned. I also remember him telling us good stories with his big grin, and that kept class entertaining. Over the years, I got to see him on a regular basis, and I always knew it would be a fun visit. I always enjoyed seeing Paul. He was a good guy.
