Obituary for Roger and Rachel Kattestad


Rachel Ann Kattestad, 81, passed from this world on September 12th , 2024. She was followed soon after by her husband of 57 years, Roger Marvin Kattestad, 82 on September 16th, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK. Rachel was born on June 22nd, 1943, in Columbus, WI, to Raymond and Anita Monthie. Rachel loved spending time with family. She was particularly known for her baking and her love of making lefse at Christmas. Roger was born November 3rd, 1941, in La Crosse, WI to Marvin and Thelma Kattestad. Roger was well known for his love of fishing and football, especially the Green Bay Packers. Rachel and Roger met at the University of Wisconsin where Rachel earned a Home Economics degree. Roger, a member of the Delta Theta Sigma fraternity, received his Master’s Degree in Agriculture. The two were married in November of 1966 in the town of Columbus, WI. Rachel spent many years teaching the next generations in several school districts in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. Her home was known to showcase many of her talents in cooking, baking, and decorating especially around the holidays. Roger worked for Wilson Foods and spent his career in the meat processing industry, eventually retiring from Tyson Foods. Roger and Rachel are survived by their two children, Kalen, 49, and Brian 47, both of Oklahoma City. Rachel is survived by her sisters Beverly and Mary, and her brother David. She is preceded by her parents, Raymond and Anita. Roger is survived by his sisters Sandra, Janice, Karen and Ann. He is preceded by his parents, Marvin and Thelma. Roger and Rachel were well known within their congregations in Oklahoma City and Rogers Arkansas as members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church. They often volunteered within the church during activities as well as behind the scenes by providing financial accounting to their home church. A Christian Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 15th, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, 500 Park St, West Salem, WI 54669. Following the service, they will be laid to rest at Neshonoc Cemetery in West Salem, WI. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
