Obituary for Marjorie Helen “Margie” Korn

Bangor, WI. – On the beautiful fall day of Saturday, October 19, 2024, Marjorie H. “Margie” Korn, 92, of Bangor, died at Mulder Health Care in West Salem. She was born on December 19, 1931, at home in Bangor, Wisconsin to Paul and Margaret “Gretta” (Ziegler) Schaller. Margie attended Bangor High School and graduated in 1949. On July 10, 1957 Margie married Harvey J. Korn at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Bangor, Wisconsin. Together they spent time having fun with family and friends. You could find them at trap shoots, ballgames, bowling, and in local establishments such as their family’s bar, Leo & Leona’s, having a beer. After the sudden death of her husband Harvey, Margie’s mother and siblings surrounded her with love and included her in many of their family’s and children’s activities. As time passed and so did more loved ones, Margie was the glue that held the family together and took on a more maternal/grandmotherly role. Through the years Margie worked in La Crosse as a bank teller, and then came closer to home working at Bangor’s Farmers State Bank until retirement. Margie’s Catholic faith was very important to her. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Bangor and its PCCW for many years. Many people will remember Margie for her outgoingness, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She kept in close touch with family and friends through her many greeting cards, social outings, and phone calls. She loved having a cold Old Style or two, shaking 6-5-4, eating out with the “Bank Girls,” and feeding her neighborhood’s birds and other wildlife. As one friend put it, “She had a good run here on Earth, but now she’s in an even better place!” Thank you, Lord, for the wonderful members of the Paul & Gretta Schaller family. We are truly blessed to belong to such an incredible family with so many wonderful memories of lives well lived.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence Schaller, Jeanette Schaller, Arthur Sommerfield, and Tom Althoff as well as many special nieces, nephews, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; her parents, Paul and Gretta; her siblings, Lyle Schaller, Eldred Schaller, Eunice (William) Gerke, Eugene (Judy) Schaller, LaVerne (Rose) Schaller, Mavis Sommerfield, Armand “Ham” Schaller, and Judith Althoff; her mother and father in-law, John (Salome) Korn; sisters-in-law and brothers-in- law, Eugene (Dottie) Korn and Leona (Leo) Cavadini; and additional loved ones.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Teresa’s of Kolkata Catholic Church, 210 E. Hamlin St., West Salem. All friends, relatives, and neighbors are warmly invited to gather and celebrate Margie’s life at a visitation remembrance starting at 9:00 AM and concluding with a rosary at 10:30 AM. Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill and Deacon Robert Zietlow will officiate. Burial will be in Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bangor. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Bangor Area Sunshine on the Trail, Bangor First Responders, or the Bangor Fire Department.
