
Obituary for Lois Harvey

Lois A. Harvey age 92, La Crosse, Wisconsin, formerly of Winona MN passed away on March 9th 2025. She was born in St. Charles, MN July 24, 1932, the daughter of Charles and Ruby (Elliot) Lowe. She was united in marriage May 29, 1951 to Dean Harvey at the former McKinley Methodist Church of Winona. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Dean in 2004.
She graduated from Winona Sr. High School in 1950, and attended Winona State College. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in La Crosse, and had been a member of PEO chapters in Winona and La Crosse. Lois retired from Dr. Todd Funk’s Dental office of Winona in 1997 and was previously employed by Dr. LL Korda’s Dental office until his retirement. Lois was also a master seamstress doing alterations for her many friends for years.
Lois was President of the Bill Allred Classic Jazz Band International Fan Club (Orlando Florida) for 24 years. She and her husband Dean founded the club in 1994 which grew to 1,600 members. Lois and Dean enjoyed many jazz festivals and concerts all over the country. She developed lifetime friendships with other jazz lovers, and they became a big part of her life.
She had a great love for her family, extended family, and her unofficially “adopted” family members. This includes a special connection to her Hawaiian family. Lois and Dean felt very grateful to have traveled to Hawaii many times to visit. Lois was also the lighthouse lady. She enjoyed visiting and exploring lighthouses and keeping an impressive collection of books and artifacts.
She is survived by her son Don (Sue) Onalaska, WI, two granddaughters Kayla (Patrick Thompson) Harvey Holualoa, HI, Rhea (Joe) Johnson and great grandson Oscar Johnson, her son Paul (Patricia Alvarez) Helotes, TX, daughter Loni (Kevin) Yungerberg Phelps, WI, along with several relatives, countless friends and special “adopted” sons and daughters.
There will be a celebration of life April 6th from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Onalaska American Legion.
