Obituary for Roger L. Summerfield


It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Lee Summerfield.

Also Known as Roger Dangerfield, He was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed by many.

Roger was born on January 15,1955, to William and Barbara (Manel) in the small town of Sparta, WI. Roger was confirmed on March 22, 1970. His confirmation verse is John 10: 27-28. He graduated from West Salem High School in 1974.

Roger started working for Harvey Nuttleman in 1972 while going to high school. After graduation, in 1977, Roger started working for Saint Joseph Construction and retired 47 years later on July 1, 2023.

Roger married Ruth Ann “Ruthie” Williams on February 21, 1987, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Barre Mills, WI.

Roger and Ruth took much pride in going to car shows displaying their 2010 Ford Shelby Super Snake. They collected quite a display of the trophies they won at the various shows. They made many trips around the U.S. staying at their timeshares. Always making an annual trip to the Daytona 500 along with his brothers.

Roger was a member of the men’s club at church and had been on the St. John’s Cemetery Board.

Roger put up a long fight being diagnosed with cancer in 2013. He knew who walked beside him on his path and never experienced fear or doubt.

Roger is survived by his mother, Barbara; his brothers, Bill, Jim, Paul, David, and Robert (Margaret) and their son, Craig (Jessica) and children, Harper,Isla, and Phoebe; many aunts and uncles; nephew, Loren (Michelle) Schwier and their children, Jessica Radke (Collin) and their girls, June, Virginia, Rosalee, and Ira Radke; his Godchild, Lee Schwier (finance, Taylor Helgerson); Angela Schwier (Billy Hansen); nephew, Jason (Jackie) Schwier and their boys, Orin of Minneapolis and Evan (Haley Ives) of West Salem; his sister- in- law, Chris Schwier; special friend, Randy Jacobson who has been a positive impact and uplifting support to him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; father, William; and his brother-in-law, Orin Schwier.

Roger never knew a stranger and would always make you feel welcome. He would do anything for a laugh and always enjoyed a good dare. Anyone that truly knew him knew he had a big heart and would give you anything. He could make you laugh, even if you were mad at him.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at St John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, W3565 Co. Rd. M., Barre Mills. Rev. Andrew Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the church.
