Obituary for Loudean R. Krome

Loudean Rose Krome, 84, of West Salem, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

She was born August 3, 1940, in La Crosse, to Henry and Ruth (Ammerman) Schmidt. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1958.

Loudean married Herbert Krome on June 20, 1959 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse, and to this union they were blessed with four children: Kimberly, Lori, Scott, and Todd. Loudean and Herbert later divorced.

Throughout her life, Loudean took care of her family, helped with the family business, and eventually worked as a bookkeeper for various places. She believed in hard work and passed that value onto her children. She loved all animals, playing cards, baking, reading, singing, listening to music, and spending time with her longtime companion, Bill Poehling. Loudean and Bill enjoyed many adventures together, and he will always be considered part of our family. Loudean will be deeply missed and her memory forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Kim (Don) Leisen, Lori (Keith) Kutz, Scott Krome, and Todd (Yukari) Krome; four grandchildren, Kallie (Travis) Hagerman, Michael Knudson, Katelyn (Milton) Lopez, and Meghan Krome; two great-grandchildren, Milana and Maxzen Lopez; two nieces; many cousins; relatives; and friends.

Loudean was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Monsignor, Sandy, and Cheryl for their many calls, prayers, and comforting visits. They would also like to thank family and friends for their prayers, the Mayo clinic hospice team for their wonderful care and support, and Fredrickson Funeral Home for their kindness, guidance, and knowledge at this difficult time.

Private services will be held.

If you wish to make a memorial donation, please consider giving to the Coulee Region Humane Society in Onalaska or to St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish (formerly St. Leo the Great Catholic Church) in West Salem.

As we watched you go, our hearts were broken. Please know how much we love and miss you. There is comfort in knowing you are now with the LORD and all the loved ones that have passed before you.

Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and forever dear.
