Obituary for Daniel E. “Dan” Jones

Daniel Eben Jones

June 24, 1950-July 3,2025

Daniel was born to Floyd E. and Melba J. (Hussa) Jones and grew up in Bangor, Wisconsin, attending school, playing sports and participating in 4-H and FFA. Dan graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science from the College of Agriculture. He was on the Dean’s List and was an active member of the AGR agricultural fraternity. Dan and his brother Gary helped their dad with their registered Holstein herd which Dan maintained until 2003. They showed the cows and had top bloodlines. The registered bulls were in great demand for area farmers and even as far away as South America.

The Jones Farm Clydesdales though are the best-known lifelong passion of Dan, his late father and late grandfather E.A. (Eben) Jones, since the year 1893. There are so many stories of Dan and the family’s Jonesway Clydesdales. He was a great hitch driver and showman in halter classes, and a well-respected judge at the biggest shows in the country. So many stories of his time judging and hilarious stories of his antics, many times with the assistance of others, at fairs and horseshows- especially at Waterloo when he was younger- and even perhaps more recently as an adult in Springfield IL in late April.

Many of Dan’s Jonesway Clydesdales became famous and went on to help establish other Clydesdale breeding farms. Dan was a great horseman and he passed his knowledge on to those who were lucky enough to get to know him, and he made sure his daughters had the right foundation to be great horsewomen with frisky naughty ponies, green or half-broke saddle horses and enough time in the Clydesdale halter show ring and cart and team classes to be able to carry on for their dad.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Floyd, mother, Melba, brother Robert (Bobby) that he never knew, and brother Dr. Gary Jones DVM PHD.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Beth (Derby) and daughters Stephanie Jones (Nathanial Lang) and Kimberly Jones (Ian Campbell) and grandson Owen Jones, and nieces, nephews and cousins, and his many beloved friends in the Clydesdale and Draft Horse world and many dog show exhibitors too.
