Obituary for Margeret “Peggy” Ziemann

Peggy served proudly as a nurse in the Navy both stateside and several countries, including Vietnam, over her 17 yrs., before her retirement in 1975 -receiving several war time commendations. She was at the forefront of establishing infection control measures at the facilities at which she was stationed. She was a fount of information regarding her career and experiences during her service – a true historian of military nursing.
Along with her late husband Commander Terry Ziemann, ret., she was actively involved in many philanthropic activities including the American Legion, UWL athletics and private scholarships along with supporting various churches and nonprofit organizations in the community.
Peggy was generous to a fault with her joy being fulfilled in giving multiple families a joyful experience on special days such as birthdays and Christmas even making family pets a part of the celebration.
Her later years found her making new friends at Benedictine Villa and organizing and participating in activities there. Her doorway always reflected the season and holidays.
Her friends and family will miss her spirit, wit, and never give up attitude she imparted by those who remain and were most dear to her – son, Brad Ziemann; grandchildren, Jason (Julia) Ziemann, Jaime (Paul) Sullivan, and Jennifer Miller; 7 great-grandchildren; along with niece, Judy Cross (Dennis). Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Terry of 46 years; son, Bruce; and 8 siblings.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday July 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Fredrickson Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park.
