Obituary for Harold E. Geary

Harold E. Geary, 74, of La Crosse, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse, just in time for happy hour in Heaven.

Harold was a veteran of the United States Army from 1970 until he was honorably discharged. He was employed at the La Crosse Rubber Mills from the age of 18 until its closing, proudly serving as the shop steward for the union throughout his career. Harold was also part owner and bartender of Players Bar in La Crosse.

With his passing, we have lost a member of the La Crosse LGBTQ+ community, a well known staple of downtown La Crosse, an advocate, a brother, an uncle, and a great friend.

Survivors include his brothers, Harvey Jr., (Deone) and LeRoy (Barbara) Geary; sisters, Linda (Rich) Salseg and Di Ann (Ron) Marohl; one niece; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, too many to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Sr., and Lucille Geary.

A celebration of Harold’s life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on August 1, 2025, at the La Crosse Eagles Club, 630 6th Street, La Crosse. To honor Harold’s service to our country, military honors will be rendered at 6:00 p.m., at the Eagles Club by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. A time of eulogy and remembrance will be held at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of gifts or flowers to the family, donations or other gestures of support may be directed to the Coulee Region Humane Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

We will all miss his smile and the rolling of his eyes.
