Obituary for Gerard C. "Gary" Elsen
Gerard "Gary" Clarence Elsen, 79, of West Salem, WI, passed peacefully on December 19, 2025.
Gary was born June 25, 1946, in Middle Ridge, WI to Peter and Leona(Buske) Elsen. He lived a life rooted in hard work, loyalty, and a love for family and country.
Gary was very proud of his service in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Guam during the Vietnam War. He was very passionate about organic farming, taking pride in working the land and nurturing it naturally. He found joy in cheering on the Green Bay Packers, playing euchre with family and friends, dancing at Concordia Ballroom, and listening to his favorite country music. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling to Seattle for extended visits with his daughter, Sindy, creating memories that held a special place in his heart.
Gary is survived by his former wife and longtime close friend, Linda Elsen; Children, Paul Elsen (Brad Heckes); Wayne and Tammy (Elsen) Petersen; Sindy Saya; Robert and Stacy (Williams) Elsen; and Lee and Daysha (Gorniak) Elsen: and his grandchildren, Kiana, August, Cameron, Liam, Guion, Alysha, Ishe, Julian, Alaina, and Aria.
He was preceded in death by his son, Troy Elsen; his parents, Peter and Leona Elsen; and his sisters, Madonna Bahr and Maryann Sedivie.
A memorial service will be held on December 28th, 2025 at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Hwy 162 and Hattan St. in Bangor, WI. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm, with a service following at 2 pm. Burial with military honors will take place after the service at St Peters Cemetery in Middle Ridge.
The family will receive cards and condolences at the funeral home.
After the service, family and friends are all welcome to come to Hunters Bar in West Salem at 4 pm for food and drinks to honor Gary.
Gary’s warmth, devotion, and love for life- especially his passion for farming- will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Those who knew him will always remember his bright smile and warmth he shared with everyone he met.
