Obituary for Sharon J. Mikkelson

Sharon J. Mikkelson, 72, of Melrose, passed away December 26, 2025, at her home.

She was born July 3, 1953, in La Crosse, to Calvin and Betty (Thayer) Johnson. Sharon was a 1972 graduate of West Salem High School. On February 17, 1973, she married Dennis R. Mikkelson in West Salem, and they were blessed with two children: Brent, born in August 1973, and Sandy, born in October 1975.

Dennis and Sharon lived on the home farm in Mindoro until they purchased the farm in Melrose in 1979. Sharon then went to work at The Country Store in Melrose and then at the factory in Ettrick, until her retirement. In 2009, they sold the farm in Melrose and purchased their house on 108 where she operated a day care center.

Sharon loved her grandkids and nieces and nephews. She also loved making wedding cakes for whomever in the family was getting married. In her earlier years, Sharon enjoyed bowling at the Tran House in Ettrick, The Pines in Black River Falls, and the Colonial in Sparta. In her later years, she enjoyed quilting with her sisters and going for moped rides.

Sharon was a dedicated and active member of South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, where she cherished teaching Sunday School for 15 years.

Survivors include her son, Brent (Andrea) Mikkelson; 12 beloved grandchildren; five treasured great-grandchildren; eight siblings; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many dear friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra J. Pierce; her husband, Dennis R. Mikkelson; one granddaughter, Avah Marie Mikkelson; her parents, Calvin and Betty; and one brother, Bruce Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. Rev. John Ashland will officiate.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m., until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.
