Obituary for Lorraine F. Everson
Lorraine Everson from La Crosse, age 96, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025 at the Brookdale Memory Care Community.
Lorraine was born March 27, 1929, in Vernon County to Selmer and Nora (Lee) Haugen. She was baptized, confirmed and married at the Upper Coon Valley Lutheran Church. She graduated from Westby High School and Vernon Normal School. Lorraine spent two years teaching at Valley View School in Chaseburg, WI and at White School in Bangor, WI.
On June 1, 1949 she was united in marriage to Sigurd Everson of Rockland, WI. Early in their marriage they farmed for two years in the Viroqua area, 11 years in Bangor and finally moving to the Westby area where they farmed for 28 years until their retirement.
While living in Westby, Wisconsin Lorraine and Sigurd were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 14 years. After they retired from farming, they moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin and became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Lorraine was active in church by participating in WELCA, Rachel Circle, Quilters, and Causeway.
Lorraine was a loving farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed and had a strong passion for writing and creating greeting cards. Lorraine’s lefse was the highlight when entertaining her large family. She was a strong advocate for preserving small family farms by being active in farming organizations. Her life was a testament to her endless faith and enduring spirit.
She is survived by her six children, Suzanne (Les) Flick of De Soto, Allan (Cheri) Everson of La Crosse, Steve (Vickie) Everson of Fountain City, Jeff (Georgia) Everson of La Farge, Carlene (Tom) Geier of Coon Valley and Curt (Chris) Everson of La Crosse. Lorraine is additionally survived by sisters Charlotte Kirkeeng and Darlene Williams, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sigurd, siblings, Stella Hohlfeld, Archie Haugen, Roland Haugen, and Blaine Haugen.
Services will be on January 8, 2026 at 11:00 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, La Crosse. Visitation will be held at 9:30 prior to the funeral service. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Country Coon Prairie Cemetery, Westby.
