Obituary for Rosalee Isabel Shay

In Loving Memory of Rosalee Isabel Shay

Rosalee “Rose” Shay passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of independence, devotion, and a bit of "sassy" spark that those who knew her will never forget.

Born to Francis and Isabel Shay, Rose grew up in a Catholic household and attended St. James Catholic School. She was a proud graduate of Logan High School and Winona Secretarial School.

Rose worked for many years in the food industry—eventually retiring from Kwik Trip in the mid-2010s. However, her most cherished roles were those of mother and grandmother. A dedicated stay-at-home mom for many years, she was the heart of her family. Her love and 'sassy' spirit extended well beyond her own home; she was known fondly as 'Auntie Rosie' and was a favorite aunt to many of her nieces and nephews.

In her later years, she resided at Bluffview Memory Care Center. Her family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care she received there, as well as the support provided by St. Croix Hospice during her final journey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Isabel Shay; her brother, James Shay; and her sisters, Phyllis Butterfield, Donna Rattle, and two infant siblings.

Her memory will be cherished by her four children: Jeffrey Schroeder, James (Lori) Schroeder, Gretchen (David) Moen, and Kimberly (Nicholas) Ryan. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Ethan and Declan Schroeder and Kylee and Noah Ryan; and her siblings, Barbara (Richard) Biritz, Richard Shay, Barb (James Shay) Stetzer, Patrick (Patricia) Shay, Mary Lou (Ron) Collins, and Scott Shay; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Catholic Prayer Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Father Robert Letona will officiate. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
