Obituary for Mildred D. Hamann

Mildred Dorothy Hamann of La Crosse, WI passed away peacefully at Riverside Transitional Care Center on February 24, 2026, at the age of 97. Mildred was born on the family farm near Hanska, Minnesota, on April 7, 1928, to George and Rose Hage.

Mildred graduated from Saint James High School in 1946 and went on to pursue a career in teaching. She earned a certificate in teaching from New Ulm and taught students in a one room schoolhouse. She married Delbert Hamann at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church near Hanska, MN, on January 11, 1948.

Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Mildred was a long time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she had served on Church Council, WELCA, Ladies Circle, and the Care Ministry Team. In her spare time, Mildred enjoyed socializing with people, playing cards, bingo, and watching her soap opera and movies. She also loved to bake. Mildred worked as a baker at the La Crosse School District for many years. Her chocolate chip cookies and frosted sugar cookie cutouts were family favorites. Her grandchildren always looked forward to the treats at Grandma’s house.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, George and Rose Hage; brothers, Harold (Viola and Maurine) Hage, and Willard (Lois) Hage; sister, Lucille (Johnny) Johnson; husband, Delbert Hamann; and daughter, Linda (Dave) Buttenhoff.

The family would like to thank the staff at Shelby Terrace Assisted Living Center for their dedicated care over the past four years. We would also like to acknowledge Riverside Transitional Center and Gundersen Hospice for providing wonderful care and support during the final weeks.
