Condolences for Delores J. Torgerson

So sorry to hear of Delores passing. I have known her for many years. I was her hairdresser for most of those years. She always had a smile on her face and kind words to share. She also had a very strong faith. She is definitely in heaven right now. One time, years ago she came in for a haircut not feeling well. I told her we had to get her to the doctor, her symptoms sounded like heart issues. She said no, I am playing the organ in a wedding tomorrow. So she left after assuring me she was fine to go to the wedding rehearsal. I called her daughter and son in laws house the second she left, told her son in law, he thanked me and said he would take care of her. He took her to the hospital and she ended up having heart surgery that evening. She recovered like a trooper and lived many more years, playing for many more weddings and church services. God bless you Delores and we will look forward to your music in heaven.

Mrs. Torgerson was my piano teacher in West Salem for many years and my sister's too, from 2nd grade through high school. She started me on Bastien and by the end she had me playing Chopin. She was firm--we didn't get to move on from a piece until we had mastered it--but was always warm and encouraging. She was a wonderful teacher and of course an excellent pianist herself. I'm grateful to her for those hundreds of enjoyable lessons over the years and for instilling in me a lifelong love for classical music. I know I was just one of many students she inspired over the years.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Delores. Her smile was always welcoming and her sweet manner was uplifting. Her years of providing music at church will always be a fond memory for me. She was a dear friend of my Mom, Opal, and they enjoyed many card games with their club. Rest in peace, Delores, and embrace your reunion with LaVerne.

So Many years-so many intriguing life experiences through America’s toughest years! Delores taught so many how to live a life respectfully; such a good person. Being born during the depression; a teenager through WWII; having young children during the entire Vietnam era; then weathering recessions, experiencing the technological advancements, and in her final days, playing with her toddler great-grandson. Life’s sweetest moments -her gift finalizing a life well lived. Health and well being is difficult in maturity, Delores knew she was so loved by her family, a caring family who have so many cherished memories of an experienced Mother, Grandmother…and all which that entailed. Thank you for allowing me the good fortune to share the moments I had, and to appreciate your smile. I’m sure LaVerne is reveling with his wonderful bride as the angelic hymns are tuning up the heavens for Christmas Eve. Keep your family safe, Delores, shine in HIS perpetual light to light the way for your grand and great grand kids. Merry Christmas, Delores!
