Obituary for Fred L. Pederson

Fred L. Pederson, 90, of Barre Mills, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Lakeview Healthcare Facility in West Salem. He was born June 10, 1930, at home in West Salem, to Julian and Alice (Oines) Pederson. Fred was baptized and confirmed at Holmen Lutheran Church. On June 10, 1956, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Jandt at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Barre Mills. Fred was a veteran of the United States Army. He served for three years with the 11th Division of the Paratroopers and the 2nd Division and completed 15 jumps. He was employed as a tool and die maker at Luxco and Northern Engraving. He was a member of the Berg-Hemker-Olson American Legion Post 51 of West Salem and St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Barre Mills, serving for six years on the church council. Fred enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards, pitching horseshoes, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary of Barre Mills; sons, Dan (Bonnie) Pederson of Barre Mills, Tim (Renae) Pederson of Watertown, S.D., and Philip (Melissa) Pederson of Barre Mills; grandchildren, Adam (Kate) Pederson, Jacob (Jennifer) Pederson, Tyler Pederson (friend, Brittany), Sarah (Ben) Myers, Kaitlin Pederson (friend, Cody), Nathan Pederson (friend, Brooke), Alex Pederson, and Alyson (Rob) Pittman; great-grandchildren, Clara, Emma, Drew, Garrett, Stella, Elliana, Emersyn, and one on the way; his brother, John “Jack” Pederson; sister, Elsie Amborn; sister-in-law, Beverly Jandt; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Gabe Vopat; sister, Connie (Carl) Bibee; sister-in-law, Phyllis Pederson; brother-in-law, Cecil Amborn; two nieces; one nephew; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marjorie (Melford) Brevig; and brother-in-law, Carl Jandt. Memorial services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, February 5, 2021, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Barre Mills. Rev. Andrew Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors to be rendered by the West Salem American Legion Post 51 and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be given to St. John’s Ev.
