Obituary for Ellen C.Thompson

Ellen Catherine Thompson, 82, of West Salem passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. She was born on February 1, 1939 in rural Viroqua, to John and Ella (Cain) Dolan. She married David "Dave" Thompson on June 24, 1961 and were married for 59 years. Ellen was a school teacher at Jefferson Elementary, Summit Elementary along with a few other elementary schools. She received both her Bachelor and Masters Degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Remedo Reading. Ellen enjoyed camping at Lake Neshonoc, along with wintering with Dave in Florida. She was creative in sewing and cross stich making keepsakes for her family whom she truly loved. A strong memory that will be carried is her smile and selflessness of her love for her family. Ellen leaves behind her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Dave; two sons, Ron Thompson and Mark (Debra) Thompson; a daughter-in-law, Mary Thompson; her treasured grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) Thompson, Heather Thompson, Allyson Thompson, Nicole Thompson, and Joel Thompson; her treasured great-grandchildren, Elliot and Porter Thompson; and her brother and sisters, Tom (Joyce) Dolan, Ann (Jim) Graham, Betty (Claude) Doud, and Dennis (Pat) Dolan. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella Dolan and her son, Randy Thompson. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 14, 2021 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Parish, West Salem. Fr. Raja Kennedy and Deacon Bob Zietlow concelebrated. Burial was in the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Jostad Chapel, West Salem, assisted the family in their time of loss.
