Obituary for Doris Mae Gates

Doris Mae Gates was born on April 25, 1930. She grew up in Bangor, WI, moved to Oklahoma, and returned to her midwest roots in La Crosse, WI.  Diverse jobs included a bank, children's home, military base, and grocery store. Joys in her life were church, clothes, hiking, kids, pets, friends, music, and last, but not least, family. As her Alzheimer's progressed, she'd ask, "How's Ma," or "how's this one of the twelve particular siblings," all of whom had passed. Well, Dor, you'll be with them now, just "Singing in the Sunshine." Rather a lifetime of reserved emotions, at 91, she'd say, "Love you, too," and blow kisses. We'll miss the Doris she was, but also miss the one she became.  Doris passed on May 26, 2021. Acknowledgement goes out to the Gundersen Staff, from paramedics, EMG's, and cardio to palliative and chaplins. Recognition also is given to the Hillview Health Care Center, where Doris had resided for her last several years.  A memorial is being planned for the summer of 2022 in conjunction with a family reunion.
