Obituary for Byron D. Johnson
Byron Dean Johnson, 73, of Mindoro, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home
Saturday, July 24, 2021, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Byron was born April 21, 1948, in Sparta, WI to Kermit and Orabell (Pfaff)
Johnson. He was raised on the family farm in Mindoro, WI and graduated from
Mindoro High School in 1966. After high school, Byron enlisted in the Navy and
served his country from 1968 through 1973. He married the love of his life, Karen
Bue, on July 20, 1968, at United Methodist Church in Melrose, WI. Byron worked
for over 40 years for the La Crosse County Highway Department.
Byron loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in his yard and garden,
sunflowers, marigolds, pumpkins, and potatoes were some of his favorites. He
loved taking rides with his faithful, four-legged companion, Bailey, and visiting
with friends and neighbors in the valley. Byron also enjoyed sitting outside in the
glider with his other devoted, four-legged companion, Chloe.
Byron is survived by his loving wife, Karen Johnson, his sister-in-law, Linda
Stendalen; brothers-in-law, Daniel Bue and Mark (Ruth) Bue; two cousins; many
nieces and nephews; and special friends and life-long neighbors, Marion Amborn
and her two daughters, Linda and Carol.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Orabell; father and
mother-in-law, Maurice and Hazel Bue; brother, Curtis Johnson; sister-in-law,
Ardell Johnson; and brother-in-law, Richard Bue.
In accordance with Byron’s wishes a private service will be held for the family. A
celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. –
4:00 p.m. at the Mindoro Lions Shelter. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Byron's Life
