Obituary for Violet Gaustad

Violet Mavis (Kruckow) Gaustad, of Houston, MN, went home to be with her Savior on October 15th, 2021. Violet was born to Fredrick and Louise (Gstalder) Kruckow on May 9, 1924. She married Lloyd Peter Gaustad on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and devout pillar of faith who prayed for each of her loved ones every night. Violet is survived by her children, Roger (Robin) Gaustad, Sandra (Alan) Meyer, and Carol (Albert) Nako; grandchildren, Alison (Brad) McNally, Kristie (Justin) Treptow, Lindsey Meyer, Abby (Pat) Jilek, Samantha Meyer, Nicole (Jack) Momaly, Rhonda (Dan) Oehmigen, Tonya (Brandon Bambenek) Felten, Senell (Mark) Jaster, and Evan (Su) Gaustad; great-grandchildren, Felicity, Dominic, Hector, Jasmine, Jamiel, Maya, Little Miss Violet, Sadie, Noah, Alandra, Libby, Nora, Mason, Clarre, and Ethan; great-great-grandchildren, Olani, Charlie, Penny, and Freya; siblings, Wilma Wiebke, Harold Kruckow, Jim (Maxine) Kruckow, Lyle (Mavis) Kruckow; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Anderson and Elanor Kruckow. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Gaustad; infant daughter, Linda; grandson, Darik; siblings, Lavern Kruckow, Mildred Moen, Dorothy Houlihan, Arnold Kruckow; in-laws, LuVern Wiebke, Judy Kruckow, Stanley Moen, Howard Houlihan, Robert Anderson, Russell and Ardis Gaustad and Kenneth (Jann) Gaustad. Together with Lloyd, Violet farmed beef, dairy, chickens, pigs, crops and enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens. She worked at Mansfield and Rush Products until retirement. Violet was a superb baker who always had fresh cookies and treats to share. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia, a member of St. John’s Mothers Club, and a member of her beloved Iris Garden Club. She lived independently at 97, driving, socializing, going to church, baking, thrift shopping, reading, gardening, canning, cooking for family gatherings, and collecting jewelry. Violet was a remarkably strong woman who faced all obstacles with determination. She had steadfast convictions about faith and forgiveness. Her mission in life was to make sure that one day her family would all be together again in heaven. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Rev. Tom Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the church. A complete obituary will follow. Violet will be remembered by her heartfelt sayings. She would say, “As long as I have a home, my family does, too.” She would always give goodbye hugs and kisses, stand in the doorway, say, “Safe Home,” and wave until every visitor was out of sight. And every evening phone call with Violet would end with, “Nighty-night, God bless, and I love you.” Violet died at the age of 97, on her family farm, in her rocking chair. Nighty-night, sweet Violet.
