Violet was a superb baker who always had fresh cookies and treats to share. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia, a member of St. John’s Mothers Club, and a member of her beloved Iris Garden Club. She lived independently at 97, driving, socializing, going to church, baking, thrift shopping, reading, gardening, canning, cooking for family gatherings, and collecting jewelry. Violet was a remarkably strong woman who faced all obstacles with determination. She had steadfast convictions about faith and forgiveness. Her mission in life was to make sure that one day her family would all be together again in heaven. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Rev. Tom Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the church. A complete obituary will follow. Violet will be remembered by her heartfelt sayings. She would say, “As long as I have a home, my family does, too.” She would always give goodbye hugs and kisses, stand in the doorway, say, “Safe Home,” and wave until every visitor was out of sight. And every evening phone call with Violet would end with, “Nighty-night, God bless, and I love you.” Violet died at the age of 97, on her family farm, in her rocking chair. Nighty-night, sweet Violet. God bless, safe home, we love you, and until we meet again.
