Obituary for James F. Bahr


James F. Bahr, 74, of Bangor died peacefully on April 22, 2022 at Eagle Crest South after battling Lewy body dementia. He was born December 21, 1947 to Alfred and Arlene (Dwyer) Bahr. He grew up on the family farm with his nine brothers and sisters, attending school in Cashton. Jim entered the Army in 1968 and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning, a young school teacher caught his eye and soon thereafter, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Shirley Jean (Nymoen) on June 26, 1971 at St. Paul’s Ev.Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI. Jim worked construction and as a carpenter. He dedicated 28 ½ years of service with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security at Fort McCoy performing carpentry work. Jim was involved in the Bangor community, playing on softball teams, volunteering with the Lions, he was a volunteer fire-fighter, a member of the Legion, and committed to his church, St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran. He was a hardworking man who was devoted to his children and grandchildren, especially enjoying their athletic achievements. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, spending time with neighbors, and dancing Sunday afternoons away at the Concordia Ballroom. Jim would occasionally be seen solving the problems of the world with friends and patrons at the local watering holes. He had a smile and something funny to say for everyone he met. He is survived by his children, Scott (Shealan) Bahr and their two children, Vincent and Calvin of Onalaska; Amy (Gregg) Harpin and their two children Thaydn and Treytn of North Prince George, Virginia; siblings Lois (Dennis) Peterson of La Crosse; John (Barb) of Ladysmith; Diane (Brian) Wang of Rockland; Sandra (Glen) Sternke of Westby; Paul (Gwen) of Coon Valley; Francis (Cheryl) of La Crosse; Christine (Steven) Schams of La Crosse; Thomas (Sharon) of Coon Valley; David (Janet) of La Crosse; sisters-in-law Nancy Warren of Oregon; Karen (Gary) Homman of Arizona; Sherry (Terry) Nymoen of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean; parents Alfred and Arlene Bahr; brother-in-law, Terry Nymoen; parents-in-law, LaVerne and Ruth Nymoen. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, Bangor with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Brock Groth will officiate. The burial with military honors will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Hwy 162 and Hattan St. Bangor on Monday, April 25 from 4pm - 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church and School in Bangor. We would like to thank the staff at Eagle Crest South for their compassionate and attentive care of Jim for the last two years and to Mayo Health Hospice nurses the last few weeks.
