Obituary for Shirley Mae Hoff
Shirley Mae Hoff, 91, of Holmen, died Friday, July 29, 2022, at Benedictine Manor, La Crosse.
She was born November 5, 1930, in La Crosse, to Herman and Lillian Papenfuss. She was a graduate from Central High School, La Crosse class of 1948. On November 29, 1956, she married Carl Hoff at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Shirley worked the family farm with her husband and raised a family. Shirley worked at Northern Engraving for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the W-ELCA at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church. In her retirement she enjoyed watching many of the Wisconsin Sports teams including the Brewers, Badgers, Packers and Bucks. She spent much of her time watching her grandson, reading and knitting mittens. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends around the fire pit. She was a very kind, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her three daughters, Patricia Hoff and Jane Brockway (Paul Sobkowiak) both of Holmen, and Jean Thompson (Larry Wolfe) of Arcadia; one grandson, Andrew Brockway of Holmen; honorary grandchildren, Trevor and Gracie Sobkowiak of Holmen; one sister, Virgina (Robert) Hudak, Orego; one sister-in-law, Mary Hoff, Mindoro; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Carl and infant twins, David and Donald; husband, Carl; 2 sons, David and James; and an infant daughter, Joan.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church, W5402 CTH V Holmen. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Neshonoc Cemetery.
