Obituary for Marvin D. "Marv" Jones
He was born July 15, 1923, in Bangor, to Jesse and Minnie (Capper) Jones; the great-grandson of the founder of Bangor, John Wheldon).
Marv had a great interest in the Jones and Capper family genealogy and made various contacts to update the genealogy records. He was a good source of information for many people who lived in the past 100 years in the Bangor and La Crosse County area.
Early in his life, Marv farmed on the home farm in Bangor, worked in La Crosse for a few years, and then was employed at the Necedah Wildlife Refuge for many years.
Marv moved from Necedah to Halls Valley near Melvina in 1980. There, he was able to continue with his passion for growing beautiful flowers. In 1996, he moved to La Crosse to be nearer to life's conveniences and again found a garden area to plant flowers. Later, he moved back to Bangor to live at Dutch Creek which was on the same land as his Wheldon ancestors.
In the quiet years that followed, he continued to be interested in gardening and the many road trips along the Mississippi River to view eagles and other wildlife as well as visiting La Crosse County homesteads and cemeteries where ancestors are at rest. Later, Marv moved into the Morrow Home Community in Sparta.
He led a quiet life and one that had many memories of "Old Bangor."
Survivors include many loving nieces and nephews.
Marv was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Raymond (Leona) Jones, Gladys (Oscar) Schilling, Luella (Byron) Harr, Allen Jones, and Virginia (Carlet) Miller.
A small private graveside service will be held at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Bangor.
