Obituary for Dale Horn
Dale Robert Horn, 89, of Caledonia/Eitzen, Minn., was called to his Heavenly home on January 26, 2023. He was born on October 14, 1933, to Elmer and Bernice (Kuecker) Horn. On February 19, 1955, he married the love of his life, Carol Meiners. Together they had three daughters, Linda, Sue, and Diane.
In 1956, Dale and Carol became Portland Prairie farmers. Dale's love to talk and help people of all ages led him to be a very active person in many organizations and boards: Winnebago Township, Eitzen Fire Department (44 years), Farm Bureau, Farm Service Agency, Pork Producers, and a 40 year member of Eitzen Lion's receiving the Melvin Jones Award. Also, Dale was always ready to give advice to the neighbors with his knowledge as a Pioneer Seed Representative for 35 years.
Dale was a lifetime member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia where he served on the Church Council, various committees, and sang in the choir for many years. He enjoyed activities such as fishing, square dancing, playing cards, traveling on bus trips, and watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sporting and 4-H functions. "Uncle Dale" as he was known by everyone, always had a smile and story to share.
Dale is survived by his wife, Carol of 67 years; his daughters, Linda (Devoine) Kruse and Diane (Bryan) Deters; son-in-law, Mark Schwebach; grandchildren, Amy (Brad) Hoscheit, Jessica (Dan) Kohnen, Nick (Brooke) Schwebach, and Tracy (Jason) Curtis; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Peyton Hoscheit; siblings, Janice (Arlen) Doely, LaVonne (Richard) Oitzman, and Wayne (Kathy) Horn; brothers-in-law, Arleigh Meiners and Ray Snell; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Schwebach; parents, Bernice and Elmer Horn; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Delia and Hobson Meiners; siblings and their spouses, Wilmer (Cel) Horn, Geraldine (Norman) Oseth, Beverly Snell, Lorraine (Bob) Melendy, infants, Merle and Elmer Horn; and special family friend, Marvin Ehlers.
A Christian Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2023, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 650 N. Kingston St., Caledonia, and also livestreamed via the St. John's Ev.
