Obituary for Iris M. Topp

Iris M. Topp, 98, of La Crosse and formerly of Genoa, passed away February 9, 2023, at Riverside Transitional Care in La Crosse.

She was born June 23, 1924, in La Crosse, to Frank and Virginia (Garvalia) Jambois. Iris grew up in Genoa and graduated from Lansing High School in Lansing, Iowa. Her first job was working at Trane Company; at a company picnic, Iris met John “Jack” Topp, Sr. A courtship followed and they were married in 1951, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Genoa.

Iris left her work at Trane Company when she and Jack began their family; she kept up with her social network while at home working as a homemaker. After the children were grown, Iris went to work at Frank Liquor and later she retired from Job Service in La Crosse. Iris and Jack shared 42 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1993.

Iris was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and Mary, Mother of the Church Parish and also was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. She enjoyed sewing, bridge, golf, bowling, and socializing with all of her friends. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Survivors include her three children, Patty (Jeff) Oswalt, John (Janice) Topp, and Steven (Kelly) Topp; her daughter-in-law, Jenny Topp; six grandchildren, Michelle (Joe) Borelli, Maria, Jackson, and Maddi Topp, and Turena and Michael Topp; her brother, Bill Jambois; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her husband, Iris was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Raymond Topp; siblings, Raymond, Frank (Pudge), Edith, and Norman (Judy); and sister-in-law, Nancy Jambois.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Riverside Transitional Care for the exceptional care you provided.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., on March 4, 2023, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse. Father Brian Konopa will celebrate the Mass. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m., until the time of Mass on March 4. A private entombment will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum of Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be given to Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.
