Obituary for Joan (Davis) Sweek

She was born on February 8, 1942, to Larry and Ruby Davis in Richland Center Wis. Joan’s family moved to West Salem, Wis., where she was raised and graduated from West Salem high school in 1960.

Joan met the love of her life and was married to Gary Sweek on April 28, 1965. They were blessed with 57 wonderful years of marriage. Her life was devoted to taking care of her family. Joan loved to laugh, was quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her sense of humor brought much laughter to her family and made for so many special memories.

Joan loved to cook, collect recipes, and watch cooking shows. She was an excellent cook and her family loved getting together for family gatherings knowing they were in for a treat. She also enjoyed fishing with her husband and going out to dinner. Many memories were made with her daughters shopping, home decorating, eating out and having a good glass of wine. She also looked forward to loving visits with her son where many laughs were shared.

Joan will be deeply missed by her family.

Survivors include her loving husband, Gary Sweek; son, James Sweek; daughters, Renee Colbert (Garry Christopherson) and Michelle (Mike) Troyer; grandson, Kyle Colbert (Lindsey); her brother, Rich (Barb) Davis; and sister-in-law, Sharon Davis.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Ruby Davis and her brothers, Robert Davis and James Davis.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
