Obituary for LaVern R. Miller

LaVern was born on October 28, 1937, to Arthur and Minnie (Manske) Miller. On June 16, 1962, he married the love of his life, Karen A. Kocimski, at St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Stoddard, where he was also baptized and confirmed. They celebrate 60 years together. In November 1962, they welcomed Jeffrey, their first son. Two years later in January, they welcomed Gregory, their second son. The family farm has been owned and operated by LaVern, Karen, and sons for 62 years.

LaVern was known for his smile and laughter he brought when telling his stories. He took pride in his family. He supported his boys all through their lives and then continued the same support through his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. LaVern was also known for knowing everyone. If you had a question, he could answer it. Sadly, in his later years, he developed Alhzimers, so he couldn’t remember much, but he was still as sharp as a tack. He was always known as “Vernie,” never LaVern; unless he was in trouble.

LaVern is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Jeffrey (Sara) Miller and Gregory Miller, both of Stoddard; grandchildren, Mandi of Colorado, Brandon, Ashley, and Chrysta Miller of Stoddard; great-granddaughter, Chloe Miller and her mother, Brigette Betz of La Crosse; three brothers-in law, Alfred Berra, Gary Kocimski, and Jim Kocimski; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Miller and Mary Betz; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 10 siblings, Arnold, Alice, Mabel, Arthur Jr., Francis, Minnie, Walter, Marie, Earl, and Robert; and his grandson, Benjamin Miller.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Rev. Silas Schmitzer will officiate. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m., until the time of service, Sunday, at the funeral home.
