Obituary for Linda K. Achterkirch

She was born, July 28, 1949 in La Crosse to Bunson “Kelly” and Alinda (Holseth) Paisley. She graduated from Melrose-Mindoro High School in 1967 as a member of the first class to graduate from Melrose-Mindoro. She married Robert Achterkirch on May 1, 1971 at the Mindoro Presbyterian Church. She was employed at Lakeview Health Care Center until her daughter, Amy, was born in 1971. She lived her entire life in Mindoro and was known as the town historian. She was the President of the Ladies Aid for the Mindoro Presbyterian Church for many years and also served as an elder. She also wrote the church history for a book marking the church’s 100th anniversary. She also wrote the church’s cookbook.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Amy (David) Tauscher and twin granddaughters, Kelly (Keith Brassow) and Katie - who were her pride and joy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She is further survived by the many friends and fellow patients at the Dialysis Center at Mayo Clinic - Onalaska that she considered family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws William and Mary Achterkirch, brothers and sister’s in law, Russell Paisley, Vivian Paisley, James (Mary) Paisley, Jerry Paisley and Carol Paisley and dear friend, Carol Rae Storandt. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at Mindoro Presbyterian Church. Pastor Allen Hanson will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mindoro Presbyterian Church or the Farmington First Responders.

The family would like to thank the staff (nurses and techs) at the Mayo Clinic Onalaska Dialysis Center for the loving care over the 9 years that she received dialysis; clinic greeters Cindy, Bob, Helen, and Gloria; and the nurses on 3rd and 9th floors of Mayo Clinic in La Crosse during her last two hospitalizations. We would also like to thank everyone from the community that helped while Linda was at home.

As mom would always say, “Take care and stay safe.”
