Obituary for Viola Horsman
She was born on January 25, 1939, in Winnebago Township to Alvin and Norma (Beneke) Oitzman. Viola attended school in New Albin, Iowa. After graduation, she moved to the Twin Cities and worked as a telephone operator. Viola met Farrell Guillien, while dancing at Concordia Hall in La Crosse, WI. They married June 25, 1960, at St. John’s Catholic Church and farmed north of Caledonia until they divorced. Together they had 6 children.
She attend WWTC in La Crosse, Wi in 1982 for finances. She started working at the Houston County Courthouse in 1983 until she retired. She met and married Lyle Horsman in 1991.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, camping, traveling, music and dancing. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her 5 children: Renee (Patrick) Chwalek and daughters Noelle and Lexie. Michelle (Jeff) Cecil and sons Tory and Shawn (Brenda Roth), Todd (Michelle) Guillien and children Jeremy (Natasha), Drew (Ellyn Pedretti) and Bridget (Cam Erickson), Karen (Ron) Hagen and sons Shane and Eli (Lindsey), and Connie Guillien and children Talia Norman, Julia (Chris) Matthews, and Jacob Brown. Great grandchildren Heath Hagen, Grant Guillien, Kaden and Jensen Hagen, Tamara, Azalea, Zebediah and Nolan Brown and Emma, Zek and Ezra Mathews. Siblings: Richard (LaVonne) Oitzman, Marilyn (Wendell) Wild, Sharon (Verne) Goetzinger and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Janelle Guillien. Her parents, her husband Lyle, the father of her children Farrell Guillien, her sister Joanne Middendorf and brother in law Butch Middendorf.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia Chapel, 518 W. Main St., in Caledonia. Pastor Dianne Ciesluk will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
