Obituary for Judy J. Goodreau


Judy Jean Goodreau, 72, of Onalaska, passed away on Thursday August 10, 2023 at Riverside Transitional Care. She was born in Milwaukee on December 28, 1950. She was adopted in infancy by Julius and Gloria (Budisch) Wiskowski. She grew up in Milwaukee and attended several Catholic grade schools. She graduated from the Milwaukee public high schools in 1968. She began working as a patient caretaker in Milwaukee hospitals at age 16 and continued after high school She married Bob Goodreau in 1970 and they eventually moved to La Crosse where she worked in local hospitals.. They subsequently divorced. After their divorce she became a non-traditional student in her early thirties at Viterbo College (now Viterbo University). She worked her way through college as a ward clerk before graduating with a bachelor's degree in counseling. She went on to Winona State University and obtained a master’s degree in counseling. After graduation she worked at various times as a chemical dependency counselor at St. Francis Hospital (now Mayo Health System), Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse, and Hiawatha Valley Counseling Center in Winona. For a time she worked as an alcohol, drug and gambling counselor for her business, Evergreen Counseling Center. Later she became a spiritual healer. She was a certified clinical therapist in Wisconsin, certified chemical dependency counselor, and as a certified gambling counselor. She was competent in aromatherapy, Reiki treatment, and crystal therapy. Judy enjoyed traveling, local festivals, movies and her plants and cats. Judy was a fantastic mom, always interested in and supportive of her children. Judy was a doting grandma. Judy cared for people and you would often see her saying “hi” to others and striking up conversations with strangers, asking sincerely how they are doing today or giving them compliments on their nice clothing and good appearance. Judy is survived by her two children, Ken (Zoe) of Reno, Nevada, and Tammy Nunes (Donnel) of Kailua. Hawaii, and her beloved grandson, Kaedon Nunes, her two cats, Willie and Bella, and many friends. Judy is grateful for the sensitive and compassionate care given her by Gundersen Health System and Riverside Transitional Care during her illnesses. As per her request, there will be no services. Judy loved protecting animals, and memorials given to humane societies or animal protective agencies might be appropriate.
