Obituary for Robert M. "Bobby" Johnson
Bobby was born on April 20th, 1979 to Robert and Dawn (Trinkes) Johnson at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1997. He went on to briefly attend WWTC, while starting his lifelong career at Stansfield Vending, at the age of 18. He had just surpassed his 26th anniversary with the company, before his death. He took great pride in working for Stansfield, and considered his coworkers to be family.
On September 16th, 2006, Bobby married Erin Christianson at English Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI. They had met 6 years prior to that, and were introduced by Erin’s cousin, who happened to be a friend of Bobby’s. They became virtually inseparable from that moment on.
From their marriage, two beautiful daughters were brought into the world. Hannah and Ava were Bobby’s pride and joy, and when he was diagnosed with cancer at their young ages, he fought to stay in their lives for as long as possible. He overcame all the odds, and became lovingly known by family and friends as “Superman”.
In his early adult years, Bobby spent several years playing league softball. It was one of his favorite past times, and he loved building relationships with family and friends. He was an avid WI Badger, and Chicago Cubs fan. As his girls grew up, he turned to devoting his time to whatever they were interested in. He coached T-ball teams when they were little, danced with them in numerous Daddy/Daughter dances at recitals, and became their biggest supporter in whatever activity they were involved in. He was so proud to be their Dad!
Bobby is survived by his wife, Erin, and two daughters, Hannah and Ava, at home. He is further survived by his parents, Bob and Dawn Johnson; sisters, Joy (Chris) Dalton, Cindy (Rob) Duffy, Carrie (Ron) Wintrone, and Julie (Josh) Finlayson; brother, Matt (Chrystal) Johnson; mother-in-law, Vicki Christianson; brothers-in-law, Brady (Amanda) Christianson and Brian (Jaimie) Christianson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ervin and Evelyn (Mydels) Trinkes; paternal grandparents, Robert E. and Doris (Nelson) Johnson; paternal aunt, Linda Tschumper Murphy; brother-in-law, Brian Marx; and father-in-law, Lonnie Christianson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 at 11:00 am at English Lutheran Church in La Crosse, with visitation at the church prior, from 9-11am. The family is being assisted by Jandt Fredrickson Funeral Home, with services officiated by Pastor Mark Kvale. Following services and lunch, interment will be at Mormon Coulee Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, or donated to cancer research.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Gundersen Health System for the wonderful care provided to Bobby over the years. Especially Dr. Ojelabi, Lisa Gundersen, PA, Kelly Lay, NP, and Dr. Gold.
May you finally be able to rest without pain, Bobby. We will miss your smile, your ability to make anyone laugh, your fierce commitment to family, and your kind heart. We are grateful for the time we were able to spend with you, and are relieved that you are no longer suffering and are now at peace. We will love you, always and forever!
