Obituary for Robert Ray Streeton


Robert Ray Streeton, 91, of Bangor, died Wednesday, October 25, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born September 23, 1932, in La Crosse, Wis., to George and Hazel (Ayers) Streeton. Bob grew up on the family farm in Bangor, Wis. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was assigned to Headquarters, 933rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion where he served as a Radio Operator.

After leaving military service, Bob worked the next 38 years as a Signal Communications Operator for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. Bob lived in Livingston, MT., and Seattle, Wash., before finishing his career in La Crosse. Once he retired from the railroad, he spent the next 30 years helping at the family farm.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and hunter; he hunted elk in Montana, pheasants in South Dakota, and deer in Wisconsin. His nephews have fond memories of him teaching them how to hunt and fish. Bob liked to watch sports, especially football and baseball. He also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and solving the puzzle before the contestants could.

Survivors include his brother, Gene Streeton of Bangor; seven nephews; and two nieces and their families.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel Streeton; two brothers, Hildreth and Harold Streeton; sister, Doris Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Mildred Streeton and Eloda Streeton; brother-in-law, Dick Hamilton; and two nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Bangor Chapel, Hwy 162 and Hattan St., Bangor. Burial with military honors will follow in Burns Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the funeral home.
