Obituary for Shirley A. Olson
She was born October 30, 1935, in La Crosse, to Angus and Cora (Odell) McConnell. Shirley was the fourth child born into a family that would become a family of 13.
On April 2, 1955, she married Spencer C. Olson in La Crosse. For many years they owned and operated Sam and Shirley’s Bar on the boardwalk in Mindoro.
Shirley was a lifetime member of Mindoro Lutheran Church. She loved watching the Packers and could often be heard exclaiming, “GO PACK GO!” Shirley was a very talented baker. She will be remembered by many people for her famous homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. Shirley also enjoyed making monster cookies and Christmas cookies with the grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include her four children, Kim (Mike) Page, Spencer “Butch” (Lisa) Olson, Susan “Sue” Olson, and Tracy (Steve) Smith; son-in-law, Dave Osley; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Helen, Linda and Jackie; four brothers, Jim, Lonnie, Gene, and Dan; two sisters-in-law, Myra and Mary; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cheryl; her grandson, TJ Storandt; granddaughters, Carrie and Sommer Clements; her beloved husband, Spencer, in July of 2017; and siblings, Ken, Barb, Bonnie, Roy, and David.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Mindoro Lutheran Church. Pastor Emma Grinde will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.
