Obituary for Charlotte Swenson
She was born November 5, 1945, in Black River Falls to Fred and Phyllis (Jinkerson) Hale. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1963.
Charlotte married her husband, Jerry Swenson on May 7, 1966. Together they had three kids. She spent her time working on the farm and raising the family. Later, she got her associate degree in food service from Western Technical College. She worked many years for La Crosse County as a caregiver.
Charlotte spent much of her lifetime volunteering; starting the Girl Scouts troop in Bangor in the 70’s, being a 4H and Boy Scouts leader, Sunday school teacher, volunteering at Gundersen Lutheran, and knitting many mittens for the mitten tree, prayer shawls for church, and sweaters to be sent abroad for those in need.
She enjoyed babysitting her grandkids and great grandkids, helping her son on the farm, mowing the lawn, and playing bingo. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in West Salem.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Lori Ammerman of Onalaska; sons, Todd Swenson (Colleen) of Sparta and Richard Swenson (Mary) of Janesville; sister, Rose Thewis (Gale); brother David Hale; grandchildren, Jared Ammerman (Maggie), Brittney Zimmerman (Tyler), Rhett Swenson, Bobbi Swenson, Tayler Swenson, Zachary Swenson (Lyndsey), Alexander Swenson, Oliva Swenson, Terol Swenson; ten great-grandchildren. Several in-laws Marion and Mac Hendrickson and Ruth and Stanley Swenson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Swenson; grandson Richard Swenson Jr.; daughter-in-law Dawn Swenson; her parents Fred and Phyllis Hale; sister Edith Hale; maternal grandparents Gladys and Edward Jinkerson; paternal grandparents Martha and Henry Hale; mother and father-in-law Olga and Alfred Swenson; brother-in-law Vernon Swenson; and sister-in-law Vivian Swenson.
She had a special Aunt Gerry that she enjoyed visiting in Arizona, who passed hours after her.
Charlotte will be missed by her loving family and friends, but is finally reunited with her Husband, Jerry, after almost 23 years to the day. She was a hard worker, a giver and never asked for anything in return.
