Obituary for Darrell O. Schroeder

He was born in Caledonia on September 29, 1949, to Herbert and Norma (Koenig) Schroeder. Darrell graduated from Caledonia High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 and served until being honorably discharged in 1970. He then met his wife Suzanne Kay Twite; they were married October 6, 1972, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia, Minn. Darrell started employment at Gateway Foods as a grocery driver in 1970. He then transitioned over to Fleming Foods and happily retired in 2002. Darrell then worked at Sno Pac as a semi driver and retired in 2015. He and his wife purchased a small hobby farm outside of Caledonia in 1981. His faith and his family were near and dear to his heart. In his free time, he would teach his children how to live life, work hard, and enjoy all of life’s memorable moments. His motto that he instilled in his children and grandchildren was, “work hard, play harder.”

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Sue; his daughter, Connie Schroeder; his son, Timothy-AKA “George” Sara (Wall); daughter, Kimberly (Dana) Klug; grandchildren, Carley (Gage) Ferkey, Macey Hoscheit, Alex Hoscheit, Addie and Levi Schroeder, and Isaac and Emelyn Klug; great-grandchildren, Maren and Zane Ferkey; brother, DeWayne “Tank” (Karen) Schroeder; sisters-in-law, Karen Schroeder and Marilyn Schroeder; brothers-in-law, Danny, David, Terry, and Tom Twite; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was welcomed in Heaven by his parents; in-laws, Newman and Julia (Skadson) Twite; his brothers, Eugene and Norbert; and granddaughter, Alexis Klug.

Our journey throughout this whole process deserves thanks and sincere gratitude to the Gundersen Health System family of ICU, General Medicine, Rehab, Hospice, and especially Dad’s special friend, Sarah-Respiratory Therapy.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors by the Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191 of Caledonia and the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, and from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service, Wednesday, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
