Obituary for Laura Moran-Hackman

Laura Jean Moran-Hackman was born September 24, 1954 at Beaumont Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Following a fantastic, seventy-year-life’s adventure, on December 27, 2024, Laura passed in her sleep at her home in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in the loving company of family.

Laura’s early life was spent in and around Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, right in the middle of Eugene and Peg Moran’s nine rambunctious children. Among her many achievements: graduating from North Crawford High School in 1972; raising three rambunctious sons of her own; earning her Registered Nurse’s license while working and parenting; becoming a talented psychiatric nurse; buying a home as a single mother; transferring her skills to ambulatory surgery; and generally creating success and happiness for herself and family.

Following a modern storybook romance, Laura wed John Hackman August 17, 1996, on Lake Superior’s picturesque Raspberry Island. The two created their own blended Brady Bunch, each with three kids of their own. The devoted couple enjoyed a beautiful, enduring marriage. Family holidays, fishing trips, leisure boating, two Packers Super Bowl Championships, good dogs and great adventures filled the happy years.

Laura is survived by a wonderful, enormous blended family: sons, Matthew & Shannon Schueller (grandkids, Violet and Emile), Joseph Schueller & Louise Wang, and Jacob & Katie Schueller (grandkids, Mac and Jet); step-daughters, Patti & James Bandow (grandkids, Julia and Katie), Heather & Joe Maass (grandkids, Miranda, Abbie, Olivia, Dylan, Olivia, Aidan, and Rachel), and Jodi & Aaron Volkmar (grandkids, Addie and Grace); siblings, Thomas Moran, Margo (Bill) Murphy, Joni Peterson, Mike (Rosie) Moran, Elizabeth (Kevin) Moran-Doyle, Bridget (Randy) Trussoni, and Patrick (Caroline) Moran; mother-in-law, Joanne Hackman; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandkids. She is preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, Timothy (Sue) Moran; brother-in-law, Bob "Bullet" (Joni) Peterson; and parents, Eugene and Margaret “Peg” Moran.

A Celebration of Life will commence at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 31, at Fredrickson Funeral Home - Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse, WI 54602-1681. In lieu of flowers, as a career health care provider and outdoors enthusiast, Laura would sincerely appreciate donations supporting Planned Parenthood or the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin. Laura and John are united once again on a new adventure.
