Obituary for Elberta Hemker

She was born March 23, 1934, in the Town of Burns to Roy and Rachel (Wadel) Lash. On October 19, 1957, she married Edwin Hemker at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. Edwin preceded Elberta in death in 2021.

Elberta worked for many years as the Bakery Manager at Hansen’s, IGA in West Salem where she took great pride in their quality products and hard working staff. She was a member of Christ/St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Salem where she volunteered in various ways and was a member of the Ladies Aid.

Survivors include a son, Richard (Mary) of La Crosse; a daughter, Debra (Rick) Adams of Sparta; son, Dave (Angie) of West Salem; grandchildren, Taylor and Tanner, Michael, Kyle, Jordan (Maria), Emily, Abby, and Anna; brother, Harlan (Barb) Lash; sister-in-law, Mary Hemker; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Elberta was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Vilas (Janice) Lash; and sisters, Winifred (Wilmer) Huber and Audrey (Ronald) Baumbach.

A private graveside service will be held at Christ Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in West Salem. Rev. Don Frelitz will officiate. Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Jostad Chapel, West Salem, in assisting the family with arrangements.

Elberta’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Gundersen Health System for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in West Salem.
