Obituary for Steven J. Miller


Steven (Steve) J. Miller Sr., 80, passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 8, 2025.

Born June 28, 1945, to Forrest L. and Alice (Beranek) Miller in La Crosse, WI.

Steve worked at Trane Co. as a machinist and inspector before retiring after 41 years. He was a member of the IAMAW and the La Crosse Oktoberfest Committee and an avid fisherman, golfer, hunter and even "dabbled" in photography after retirement.

Steve was a quiet man, filling his family and friends with life, laughter and love. He shall be forever remembered and loved.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Grodevant) Miller, brothers; Frank (Cathy) Miller, Jerry (Tu) Miller, John Hamilton, Bryan (Deb) Thompson and Robin (Cindy) Miller, sisters; Marcia (Lewis) Martin and Rebecca Miller, children; Steve (Mark) Miller Jr., Susan (Norm) Willer, Karen (Ken) Reed, Heath (Renee) Young, Tanya (Mark) Rahzen and Luke Young, 16 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Thompson, father, Forrest Miller, stepfathers; Drake Hamilton and Glen Thompson. Aunt and uncle, Marian (Miller) and Harold Schild. As well as several aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers-in-law.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the Presbyterian Church in West Salem. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of the service, Wednesday, at the church.

Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery with a luncheon after.

Fredrickson Funeral Homes, West Salem, is in charge of arrangements.
