Obituary for Marion V. Amborn


Marion V. Amborn, 91, of Mindoro, passed away peacefully in her cherished farm house with her daughter, friends, and cat, Morrie by her side on Sunday November 9, 2025.

She was born June 18, 1934, to Roy and Elsie (Erickson) Jerome. Marion was a proud 1952 graduate of Mindoro High School. On October 21, 1953, she was united in marriage to Thurlo Amborn in Bangor. They farmed side by side until Thurlo passed away in 1983. Marion even ran the farm while Thurlo was employed at the county highway department. She also worked at Ernie’s IGA in Sparta and Craig’s Meats.

Marion was a very active member of the La Crosse County 4H Club and a leader of the Browns Valley 4H Club. She was a lifetime member of Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in Burr Oak where she enjoyed participating in various activities at church; especially, the Women of Christ. Marion was active with the blood mobile running the canteen for many years. She enjoyed being involved in her community; earning her the title “Mindoro Citizen of the Year” in 2011.

In her younger years, she enjoyed being involved in sports, playing first base on the 4H mixed softball team. She liked to travel, especially the yearly trips she took with her daughters after Thurlo passed away, bird watching, nature, and mowing her lawn, Marion took great pride in its appearance.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Amborn (Pat Vickman) and Carol (Dan) Booker; sister, Jean Sampson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Jerome; brothers-in-law, Jim Elliott and Wilbur Johnson; her beloved cat, Morrie; dear friends, Ruth Stetzer and Rose LeMoine; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurlo in 1983; her parents, Roy and Elsie Jerome; siblings, Donald (Dorothy) Jerome, Vivian Elliott, Irene (Allen) Spors; brothers-in-law, Jack Sampson and Everett (Verna) Amborn; and sister-in-law, Darlene Johnson.

A Christian Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. Rev. Christopher Johns will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Bangor Chapel, Hwy 162 and Hattan St., Bangor, and also from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the church.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice, especially Beth and Jayden, and to Marcia Iverson for the tender care they all provided to Marion. A special thank you to Pat Vickman for all of your work, support, care, and selfless gift of your time.

Marion left one last message for those she left behind, “Tell everyone I loved them very much.”
