Obituary for Noel Dahl

Noel Dahl, 84, of West Salem, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health
System-Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse.
Noel was born on Dec. 13, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to William and Evelyn Brown. She
graduated from Hartland High School and attended Stout State University working toward a
degree as a home economics teacher. While there she met Vern Dahl. The two were united in
marriage on June 9, 1956 and the couple had five children. She quit college at that time to be a
fulltime wife and mother.
After living in both California and Iowa for a brief time, the family moved to West Salem in 1965
which would become their permanent home. In the early 70s Noel went back to college and
finished her teaching degree at Viterbo. She then taught home economics at Sparta Middle
School for 20 years before retiring.
After retirement she and her husband traveled and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren
and in the last few years great-grandchildren.
Noel will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who delighted in her family
and who had a knack for making events and visits extra special. She always put her faith in her
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was an example of this faith to all who knew her. During the
last several years of her life she especially looked forward to Wednesday morning Bible study at
her church, Christ is Lord, where she made many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Mary; and brother, Barc.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vern; sons, Mark (Marilyn), David (Susan) and
Richard (Julie); daughters, Lisa (David) Johnson and Janet; 13 grandchildren; 18
great-grandchildren with three more on the way; brother, Robert (Margaret) Brown;
sisters-in-law, Peggy Dahl and Jeanine Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held on Friday, Jan. 15 2021. Pastor Jonathan Unverzagt will
officiate.
